Who we are
Mutahhir is published by Sana Fatima, an independent developer ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information the Mutahhir mobile app handles and how.

Account information
Mutahhir requires you to sign in with Apple or Google before you scan. When you do, we receive a user ID and the name and email address that your sign-in provider chooses to share. If you use Sign in with Apple, you can hide your email address, and Apple gives us a private relay address instead.
We use this information to create your account, recognize you when you sign in, and respond to support requests. We store it on our servers for as long as your account exists.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect your location, contacts or photos. Apart from the temporary request logs described below, we do not store which products you scan, and we never receive your dietary settings.
The app does not use advertising identifiers, and it contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software.
Information processed to run the app
Camera. Mutahhir uses your camera only to read barcodes. The image is processed on your device in real time. It is not saved, and it is not sent to us or anyone else.
Barcode lookups. To show a product's details, the app sends the barcode number to our servers, which retrieve the product information from Open Food Facts and analyze its ingredients. Like any internet request, this reveals your device's IP address to our servers, and the request may include a token from your signed-in session, which we use to confirm it comes from the app. We do not use lookups to build a profile of you.
Manual entry. Barcodes you type in are handled the same way as scanned barcodes.
Information stored on your device
The following is stored only on your device and is never sent to us:
- Your scan history
- Your settings, including strictness level and allergen exclusions
- A cached copy of product data, so the app loads faster and works offline
We cannot see, access or recover this information, and it is deleted when you delete the app. If you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, this data may be included in those backups under Apple's or your own settings.
Third-party services
Open Food Facts. Product information comes from Open Food Facts, a non-profit open food database. Our servers request product data from Open Food Facts on your behalf, so Open Food Facts receives only the barcode, not your IP address or any information about you. Product data is available under the Open Database License, and product images under Creative Commons licenses. You can read about Open Food Facts' own practices in its privacy policy.
Apple. You can sign in with Apple, and Mutahhir is distributed through the App Store. Apple handles your sign-in under its privacy policy. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics such as install and crash counts. We cannot identify you from these.
Google. If you sign in with Google, Google handles your sign-in under its privacy policy and shares your name, email address and profile identifier with us as described above.
Religious, dietary and health preferences
Your dietary choices can reveal your religious beliefs or health conditions, which many privacy laws treat as sensitive information. Mutahhir is designed so this information stays on your device.
Your strictness level, allergen exclusions and scan history are never sent to us, shared or sold. Barcode lookups do not include these settings.
No advertising, tracking or sale of data
Mutahhir shows no ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use your information for targeted advertising.
Keeping and deleting your information
You can delete your account and its data from within the app at any time. Deleting your account removes your name, email address and user ID from our servers.
Your scan history and settings are stored only on your device. You can clear your scan history in Settings, or remove everything by deleting the app.
Our servers keep basic request logs, which may include IP addresses and, when you are signed in, your user ID, for up to 7 days for security and troubleshooting, then delete them automatically. We do not use these logs to track what you scan.
Children
Mutahhir is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the account.
Security
All lookups and sign-ins are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Information stored on your device is protected by your device's own security, such as your passcode and Apple's built-in data protection. We limit the account information we keep to what is described in this policy.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information a company holds about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising. Residents of states such as California and Texas have rights like these under state law.
We do not sell or share your personal information. You can delete your account and its data in the app at any time, and you can email us to ask what we hold about you or to request a correction or deletion. We will respond within the time the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Mutahhir handles information, we will update this policy and the effective date at the top. If a change means we would start collecting information we do not collect today, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
